What is Fahari-Libertad?

FA-HA-RI: (noun) Dignity, respect, a good reptutation, derived from the language of KiSwahili.
LI-BER-TAD: (noun) Spanish for "Freedom."

"THE FAHARI-LIBERTAD is committed to printing the political, social, and economic views and concerns regarding people of color at SUNY New Paltz. It is published in the spirit of cultural unity as well as bringing about the spiritual unification of all people. The main goal of THE FAHARI-LIBERTAD is to enrich and educate all people with knowledge and enlightenment. We accept with open arms anyone who is truly committed to these goals to work with us.

MISSION STATEMENT:
To seek knowledge, truth and unity with pride.

Professor Thompson played this song in class last week in class. Gil Scott Heron is the greatest along with the other Last Poets. Since then i filled my mp3 player with all my last poets songs. So when you see me walking around campus with earphones on you know what i'm listening to.

According to the Last Poets "When the revolution comes afros gone be trying to straighten their heads and straightened heads gone be tryin to wear afros," so we are in the midst of a revolution. Many may not believe this but shit is going down everywhere but we just don't see it on mainstream media.

What i'm going to try and do here is give yall readers real news that you aren't going to hear on CNN,FOX, etc.

This issue of The Fahari-Libertad will revolve around the idea that we place our worth on the possessions that we have. We will tackle the issues of individuality (or the lack of it), consumerism, materialism, style/fashion, stereotypes and how all these themes tie together in relation to who we really are. So send us you articles, referred articles, cartoons, advertisements, poems, photos, and anything else that you would like to get published.
